545 - 500 Series Primary Source Enhancer

The 545 provides the world's most natural feedback reduction, allowing you to focus on your main source. A truly unique tool to improve your live sound.

Based on the Portico 5045 circuit, which has been highly acclaimed in countless tours, arenas, churches, and broadcast settings, the 545 is a mono device compatible with the 500 series module, perfect for vocals and instruments. You can effectively increase the signal level of your live microphone by up to 20dB while minimizing feedback without negatively impacting the sound quality of your source. With its simple layout and easy operation, the 545 will be an invaluable tool in situations where feedback and reverberation are an issue.

All-analog design
Although the 545 shares some features with traditional 'noise gates', its operating principle is different. One common aspect is that the gain is reduced when there is no input signal. Specifically, attenuation begins after the signal level falls below an arbitrary threshold set by the user - if the 545 detects singing or speaking into the microphone, the signal passes; If detected, it will reduce the gain appropriately and suppress the elements that lead to feedback.

Please keep in mind that the 545 does not rely on filtering or digital processing to achieve such great benefits. All-analog circuitry built around custom input and output transformers by Rupert Neve Designs provides superior control and sonic characteristics without compromising material integrity. The uniquely intuitive and natural sound of the 545 makes it one of the most effective solutions for feedback reduction.

Simple and intuitive operation
The appeal of the 545 is its ease of use. Controls are organized into a minimal number of knobs and switches, so you won't have to worry about operating it even if you don't have an experienced engineer. You can make instant adjustments even during a performance.

Engage - Illuminated push button to turn on/off the effect of the primary source enhancer.

Active - This LED lights up when the input signal to the 545 exceeds the enhancement threshold. It lights up when the main source you want (such as a singing voice) passes through, so it is very useful when setting up the 545.

Threshold - Threshold
Sets the dBu level at which the primary source enhancer begins to have an effect.

Depth - Adjusting this knob sets the maximum amount of effect the 545 will have. In other words, this determines how much the input signal is attenuated after it falls below the threshold value. By turning the DEPTH knob clockwise from 0dB to -20dB, the input signal will be attenuated more dramatically. Find the right balance between the audible effect of primary source enhancement and feedback reduction.

FAST - Fast
Illuminated push button to select between the two time constants provided. Determines how quickly attenuation occurs where the input word or phrase breaks off and becomes quiet. If the FAST button is not pressed, the 545 provides a slower attack and release - this setting will be useful in most cases as a starting point. On the other hand, pressing the button will result in faster attack and release times - this setting is useful when faster transient detection is required, such as in dynamic sources or passages.

Peak - Illuminated push button to select either RMS mode or peak detection mode. When this button is lit, the 545 is in PEAK mode - detects peaks of faster transients...
