Studer A820 Master Recorder 1/2" 2 Track- includes Mark Levinson - Cello Audio Suite Reproduce Electronics

This Studer A820 2 Track Master Recorder includes Mark Levinson designed Cello Audio Suite Repro Electronics. Both are in excellent condition.  

This machine came out of an extremely well known Mastering Studio, and has been beautifully maintained.  Included are 1/4" and 1/2" Head Stacks, all Rollers/Guides, Splicing Blocks for both of the Head Stacks, Transformer-less Output Cards, Rolling Cart, Meter Bridge with Monitor/Headphone module.. There is a switch to select between Cello or Studer Repro, and Custom Manual Azimuth Adjust Potentiometer on the Head Stack.  

My name is Kevin S. McMahon and I own Marcata Recording. I Produce and Master records, and am an Audio Tech and Studio Designer. I was fortunate enough to have recently serviced this machine, as well as a second, which were both in one of the most impressive, and thoughtfully designed Mastering facilities I could ever hope to end up in. One thing led to another and I ended up with the opportunity to buy them both.  I am selling 1 and keeping the other to use myself, hoping to preserve, and honor the art of analog recording, and hopefully add something meaningful to the already spectacular history of the this machine.   

The power supplies have been recapped with Nichicon electrolytics, and I performed a full Electronic Calibration, and have transferred many digital recordings to the machine using both NAB and CCIR Equalization Curves as well as both 15 and 30 ips.  I have taken some video showing the fully working transport functionality, and documented playback of an MRL Test Tape showing flat frequency response from 20hz-20khz, and VU Meter functionality on both channels which is included in this ad. There are some scratches around the splicing block, and some minor signs of wear, but overall this machine is very clean, and sounds amazing!

It is truly hard to say if listening to it reproduce your favorite music, or if just watching the precision transport handling the tape is more rewarding!

The Cello Audio Suite Mainframe is equipped with P603/P301 modules which serve as state-of-the-art playback electronics.  It comes with the Master Supply PSU, and Cello Strings balanced line interconnects, which have been installed directly to the Headstack with a switch to select Cello or Studer playback paths.  These cables features three Litz conductors, teflon dialectric, Litz shield, and special mechanical construction. Cello Strings have been selected by the most critical professionals because they provide better sound quality. Cello Strings are required to obtain full advantage from Cello electronics.
