Fender Japan Pink Paisley Telecaster

This is a Fender Japan Classic 69 Telecaster Pink Paisley reissue of the iconic USA Pink Paisley Teles from 1968-70.

This is a sought after Fender Made In Japan A Series Tele from one of the highest quality periods of Japanese manufacture. Many believe that In this period, Fender Japan was consistently producing instruments superior to those constructed in California. It is the reason the E Series and A Series MIJ guitars from 1982 – 86 consistently achieve impressive second hand sales prices. They are now becoming harder to find in good condition like this one.

This A Series model was a limited edition instrument available by custom order. The early Paisleys had an ash body, which we believe this to be. Later models have a basswood body.

The bright Pink Paisley finish is quite stunning – a real head turner. There is no lifting or cracking around the edges which is a problem on some paisley guitars. The poly finish is clean and shiny except for one piece of bark off the rear upper bout – see pics.

There are some nice upgrades on this one too, including 3 x Fender Custom Shop Texas Special pickups installed and set up by Fender Australia. That’s two Texas Special Tele pickups, plus one Texas Special Strat pickup in the middle.

To optimize the opportunities presented by the third pickup, there has also been a 5 way Fender switch installed along with a Fender S-1 switch to add two more combinations to the regular Tele 3 way - 

- neck & bridge together in treble pickup position with S-1 switch in down position

- all three together in position between treble and middle with switch in down position

This one also has some nice compensated solid brass saddles installed in the bridge.

There is no serial number that we can find on this guitar, although the neck is hand dated 1985, and both the neck and the neck socket are stamped with TL 69-70, identifying it as a 1969-70 Telecaster reissue – see pics.

This high quality Pretty-In-Pink beauty was bought by its current owner five years ago. He had the pickup upgrades & setup done by Fender Aust, and it has been used only at home and in his studio since then. There are a few minor marks and scratches but nothing of note apart from the ding mentioned earlier, and a hairline crack in the clear coat near the neck pocket on the upper bout.

It plays well with a comfortable mid C neck profile. The frets are in good condition with plenty of life left. And the pickups are fabulous – big Tele sounds with lots of switching options & tonal variety.

Comes in older (possibly Fender ?) funky brown quality vinyl gig bag in good condition.
