Kay M-1 1954 Bird’s Eye Maple

All Original (except for the bridge) 1954 Kay Model M-1 3/4 Bass. This is a very unique model as they used a Bird’s-eye maple on the back. I have been playing and restoring Basses for close to 25 years and l have never seen this model before except on a Blonde.

Very healthy instrument here: both sound and construction. It has normal wear and tear for being almost 75 years old. Nothing major. See photo of the neck which is usually where Kay Basses have cracked. This neck is not cracked. Original rosewood tail piece and finger board. I did swap out the metal end-pin for a Walnut wood end-pin. Rubber ball unscrews for sharp metal tip end.

This Bass has actually been my personal Bass over the last few years. I play both pizz and arco style music and she is set up to perform both very well. The only reason lm selling is because lm buying a solo style classical Bass as my playing is going more towards orchestral now. In all my years l have never come across a laminated Bass with so much Low End -ever! The highs are very crisp and projecting as well. I’d like to think it’s the magic of my set-up skills but it’s also this Bass… lots of Boom!

The strings which are included in the sale of this bass will be Spirocores. The strings which are on this bass now will not be included in this sale. This sell does not include the David Gage realist pick-up as photoed. Bass does come with a fairly new paded black gig-bag.

I’d rather not ship, however, l’m willing to build a crate and freight it via fed-ex at buyers expense hence the massive shipping fee.
