Antique Jacobus Stainer size 4/4 violin with case & bow. It is marked Austria, 1695. (Someone said this is a Stainer copy, made in the Saxony region of Germany from the late 19th century up to the 1930s, but WW2 stopped manufacture.) Etched on back scroll/peg-box: Conservatory Violin. Label says: Jacobus Stainer, in Absam, prope Oenipontum, 1695. Austrian luthier, Jakob Stainer (c. 1619-1683). Absam is a city in Austria, Innsbruck district (prope Oenipontus is Latin for: near Innsbruck). Need to add a piece of wood to one peg, and replace strings. The bow is good, but needs hair-replacement. Looks like a couple of repairs were made to the neck/peg-box. One waist f-hole is enlarged. No soundpost inside. No other parts seem to be missing or broken. The original wood case is in terrible condition, but most of it seems to be there and can be re-glued to become functional again. Violin 23.5 x 8; Bow 29 inch. It is so old that the ebay form does not allow me to enter the year.
