VCP is offering a super cool vintage single PAF ES-175.
Used by the late great Herb Ellis, Jim Hall and many others.
Back when these guitars were more tools than collectable pieces of Americana, pro-players would often times commission their trusted local luthier / repair person for an "upgrade" of sorts to slightly more modern specs. These mods could take the shape of numerous coil-tap switches, floyd rose bridges being put into Pre-CBS strats and a host of other oddities in favor of trying to stay current.
The case with this lovely early 50's ES-175 seems to be just that. While it undoubtedly started life as the traditional sunburst, single P-90 workhorse archtop we've seen so many times, the previous owner had his main squeeze customized with a humbucking pickup and a full refinish in a lovely brown stain / walnut.
The quality of the work is absolutely phenomenal. As pro as pro gets. For those looking for an ES-175 from this era, and the early 50's examples are known to be extremely great guitars (this is one of them!), this is a very cool opportunity to snag one for a player's price and about 1/2 of the market value of an all original un-altered example.
