Here is the incredible Eowave Persephone MKII. It's an analog fingerboard synthesizer made in France. The user plays the synth using a "ribbon controller". The player can select whether the ribbon covers one, two, five, or a whopping 10 octaves, and alters pitch by gliding their finger up and down the rubberised ribbon, sort of like a theremin. The persephone can also be used as a MIDI controller for other electronic instruments. Think of Jonny Greenwood's work in Radiohead on KID A in which he uses the Ondes Martenot. Jonny fell in love with the Ondes Martenot at the moment he first heard its ethereal sounds on a recording of Olivier Messiaen's Turangalîla-Symphonie.
