Fully Restored Grundig 5490 Stereo FM/MPX/AM/Shortwave/UHF Radio MCM Style And Incredible Sound!

For sale is a fully restored MCM-style Grundig 5490 Concert radio in fantastic cosmetic condition! This rare top of the line radio is a beautiful example - it has USA-based AM and FM bands and thus sold in the USA by Grundig. As with all Grundig radios, the performance is top notch in all aspects after the restoration!

Other than the typical petina from age...this is darn near as mint condition as one can expect to find a vintage Euro radio of this caliber. We did minimal cosmetic work - really just a light cleaning, a quick pass of restore-a-finish on the case and replacing the lights with LEDs. The dial indicator for the FM was busted we repaired it discretely - tracking is a hair off for FM but it does not affect performance at all.

Electronically the entire unit received first a full recapping of all of the old failure prone electrolytic and film caps. The power supply is rebuilt from the ground up with a new rectifier and new high temp, long life electrolytics and any failing resistors, wiring etc replaced as well. The entire unit was checked over and all mains wiring etc was verified to be safe and correct for USA wall voltages. All of the original Telefunken and similar tubes worked well and did not need replacing - the tubes showed no signs of heavy use. The MPX unit was of course addressed as well. The radio required minimal alignment and performs as expected in all manners. We were picking up radio stations from all over the world with a basic long wire antenna!!

The FM MPX is great on this unit - also the tone controls are very cool/versatile...the performance of these vintage sets is downright scary good sometimes!

This will be packed and shipped so it arrives as it left here. The size and weight of the unit are factored into the price. These are not offered really ever in restored condition!
