About This Listing

Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at an early Shure Brothers 707A crystal cardioid "Brown Biscuit" microphone (If I'm not mistaken) manufactured during the late 1930's or 1940's with a modern bullet mic design that was quite popular for several years in that time period. The earlier 707A mics did not come with the Shure badge. Shure eventually include the badge on the model after a few years into production making these earlier models a bit harder to come by. It comes with the period Shure S34A detachable desk stand and short cable shown.

Pic # 2 shows this very models and all of it's characteristics but the mic shown in the 1945 catalog is the 707A with the Shure badge. Again, the one being sold is the earlier version.

Harmonica players seem to like this style of mic very much as they are easy to hold and lite weight.

It should be noted however that despite the nice overall physical condition of the mic...the original element inside the housing no longer works which is to be expected form a mic that is roughly 80 years old. There is plenty of room to work with inside the mic housing so installing a new element would be quite easy. A Shure Controlled Magnetic or Controlled Reluctance element would do the job nicely.

The 707A has typical lite wear on the original brown paint but otherwise not bad at all. One of the nicest I have come across in a while. There are paint chips with a few small scratches but zero dents or fractures and all the original hardware is included. The front grill is free of any dents or fractures and the black silk inner screens look incredible. No rips or holes. There is no pitting on the chrome front grill either.

Mic has a short 12 inch cable that exits out the rear of the mic head. Cable is soft, pliable and free of damage. It has an old female 1/4 inch end connector that accepts a standard male 1/4 inch cable. I have found that the cable is properly wired as well.

I'd rate the cosmetic condition of this mic a true 7 on a scale of 1 - 10.

The head of the mic can be unscrewed from the stem of the stand but the stand itself is a detachable model meaning the entire stem / handle can be removed from the base with a half twist.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE...

The stand is a 1940's era detachable Shure S34A microphone desk stand. This stand was typical for it's day having an aluminum base with detachable wood handle allowing the user to disconnect the mic easily while having a sturdy handle attached to the mic to walk around with. This model was only manufactured for about 10 years before it became the newer S38B model making it quite hard to come by. The stand thread itself is universal and any mic will technically mate to the top of it.

This particular stand has typical lite wear on both the handle and base. Please let the detailed pictures be your guide. The paint is original on the base as well and the bottom still has the original felt pad that will keep the stand from scratching any surface it sits on. Mic stand is appx 6 inches tall X 4 1/2 inches wide.

Again, the brown wood handle comes off of the base with a half twist and is held in via tension.

Total height with stand and mic is appx is 9 inches.

Please let the detailed pics be your guide. This is going to look incredible anywhere it's displayed in the house, office or studio.

 And as always...

I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating. International buyers are welcome as well. Buyer must pay within 24 hours or an unpaid case will be opened and item relisted. Domestic buyer will get priority shipping.

If you have any questions feel free to ask and...thanks for looking.
