About the bass: This is a LEFTY 2000 Custom Alembic Orion Medium scale bass. The original owner custom ordered a smaller-bodied Orion bass with a 32 inch medium scale length, a cocobolo top, the active Filter Q-Switch and Q-Control knob, and a custom silver design at the 12th fret. I am the second owner. I bought this bass because of its slightly lighter, smaller-than-usual size and because its an incredible Alembic. The 32 inch medium scale is a joy to play for anyone and has the greatest tone/playability balance of all the bass scale lengths (short scale 30, medium 32, long 34). This bass is comfy and ergonomic. The filter switch and knob are amazing and make for some great low end sounds. The hardware is top notch brass and the woods are just gorgeous.
About the condition: Immaculate shape. like new. No dings, no scratches. Full, perfect frets. Perfect electronics. Hardware: near new with few minor blemishes.
About the woods: Body: Cocobolo top & mahogany back sandwiching a maple center. Neck: Maple and purple heart neck thru design. Fingerboard: Ebony. Inlay Silver and Paua. Brass hardware.
About the active electronics: Perfect sounds everywhere on the knobs, as one would expect from Alembic.
About the filter: Basically, the filter control is a low pass filter; as you roll it back it lowers the point at which it passes low frequency signals and blocks high frequency signals. To quote Mica, "the range is from 350Hz-6KHz. Wherever you set the filter, only frequencies below that cutoff point are passed." The Q switch works in concert with the filter and provides an 8db boost at the cut off frequency you've set with the filter. When the switch is off you get a flat response on to the filter setting. Again to quote Mica, "the Q affects mainly the attack portion of the note" .
Let me know if you have questions.
