Few players are as inextricably associated with a guitar effect as The Edge and his ’80s Korg SDD-3000, which became a fixture in his rig right around The Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua Tree. The sound is immediately identifiable: a stuttering cascade of notes dancing over a decaying trail of percussive pick attack. The effect has been an obsession for U2 freaks for decades.
Producer (and Guitarist) Daniel Lanois (who engineered a great deal of the music of U2 as well as work with many others) is very fond of plugging guitars into the SDD-3000 simply to use the preamp and to boost the guitar signal before it reaches the preamp at the front of the guitar amp. NOTE: I purchased this used from someone in England and have since (recently) had the power supply professionally replaced by the good people at HEYDAY MUSIC in Asheville, North Carolina.
