This is the famed first piccolo bass built for Stanley Clarke by Carl Thompson. It was Carl's 9th build in 1974, the year he started building instruments.
The bass was refurbished by Carl himself. Included on the COA is a list of the work Carl did during refurb.
Carl felt that the scale of the bass was ultimately incorrect for piccolo and decided to string it standard as I am not a piccolo player. There were no blue prints for a piccolo as this was the first.
The bass has 26 frets and is a 34 inch scale. You can check out Carl chatting about the history of this bass in life beyond the 3rd fret parts 6 & 7. The bass plays amazingly well and sounds fantastic. It shows little wear for an instrument of it's age. However, there's a small cut on the lower horn. Carl stopped his shop hands from sanding this out because he felt if Stanley was responsible for it, then it added to the instruments mojo. I'll be happy to answer any further questions you may have.
