Previous owner claimed this was a NAMM special display guitar not intended for sale. It is safe to assume that the marking "NFS” stands for "not for sale". The pencil markings throughout are very much consistent with how Fender marked instruments at the time. The green tag with blue writing on the case matches several other tags for guitars that came from the Chinery collection, so it is very possible that this was once part of that collection.
Body: Lucite (internal pencil markings read "5-61" In bridge pickup cavity, ”9” written in neck pickup cavity, “nfs", "9", "2" in neck pocket)
Neck: Solid maple neck with a medium-round profile, 1 9/16” wide nut, highly figured Brazilian fretboard, 7.25” radius, and dot inlays (marked "5-61" “R”)
Pickups/Hardware: Kluson Deluxe tuners, two single-coils (Rated at 10.8kOhms in the neck and 5.4k in the bridge), three-way pickup selector switch, volume and tone controls (All original, visible ’60 and ’61 pot dates, inside of pickguard is marked “9”)
Cosmetic Condition: The body looks great, it just has some light scratches on it. The pickguard has some cracks around the input jack. The neck has had its finish worn-in from play and the headstock just shows traces of wear around the edges. This is an incredibly clean Duo Sonic!
Playability: The strings are low and play nicely with only minimal buzz.
