DVS (David Van Scotter) GUITARS
ART DECO Console style 6 string LAP STEEL
One of a kind. (DVS GUITARS) original design.
Playable up to the 19th (fret), Right at front edge of pickup.
Handmade recycled, and reclaimed materials, made in 2014
Lap steel is 24" inch scale length, the fret marker lines were positioned using a chart in the free info section of Stewart MacDonald instruments parts and tools, website.
Parts Include:
Graphtech Compensated Classical Guitar Saddle,
Off Brand Alnico Humbucker, with adjustable pole pieces, purchased on eBay 7-8 years ago.
Volume & Tone Controls, with ..047 "Orange Drop" Capacitor
DieCast Sealed Tuners.
Tailpiece came from vintage Teisco guitar,
Bridge piece came from: Music Makers,
Dark colored wood - is actually a stained oak sample, that an interior decorator had thrown out when they moved to a new location. (Color is: "Espresso") LOL
Body: Bought for $2 at yard sale Is actually a fiberboard nick-nak type wall shelf, that had (2) keyhole style metal hole inserts to be directly mounted to a wall using anchors in drywal or screws into wall studs.
It is actually upside down - the top of the Lap-Steel is actually the bottom of the former shelf.
The neck is an already finished hardwood, (maple- I think), from a chair I found set out for free. In a nearby alley. It is actually two identical pieces that over lap until right in front of the pickup, with the neck being on top, and the other piece being on the bottom side of the instrument going all the the way to the back edge of the inside of the body. Like many semi-hollow body guitars.
The neck is very strong, no flexing without extreme effort.. All parts are very well attached and held together with both wood screws and Titebond Wood Glue.
There is an access panel on bottom for the electronics.
It has a nice acoustic sound from the small sound hall, that is actually a screen type sink strainer.
The Neck is of course brown and the body white, it was always white but I have also painted it white with interior/exterior latex paint, with the neck going under the cut out portion of the top of the body..
The art deco style fret markers are actually paper that has been glued and then sealed with a clear finish, which is covering the complete top (indoor/outdoor) ModPodge Glue and water resistant sealer.
