1940's 'orphaned' Gretsch Drums
14.24 bass drum/6.5.14 Super Structure snare drum/9.13 Tom/16.16 floor tom. The floor tom is sumwhat rare because it's a 1940's 6ply
The drums came to me at various times. I applied a Burnt Orange-like finish in a Stain - no GLoss added.
The drums are in very good condition. The bass drum could maybe use new Calfhide heads. I tucked some very old (20's-30's?) on the drum and they sound good.
The 9.13 tom has a plastic resonant head and a calf batter. The snare has a plastic reso head and a calf batter. The floor tom has calfhide on both heads.
The 16" floor tom is a bit of a rarity in itself. It's probably a 'prototype 6ply.' Gretsch was experimenting with plys in the 40's and into the 50's .
I have never seen (nor have the drum historians I've talked to about this drum) a 6ply 40.s Gretsch floor tom. It is original because I removed the
damabed original wrap myself and documented the proceedure in video and photos. 40's Gretsch floor toms are very rare in themselves.
