The Ibanez Roadstar II RB850 incorporates a number of innovative enhancements that differentiate it from other Roadstars of that era. Most significantly are the exceptionally versatile multiple-polepiece Duo-Sound humbucking pickups, which can be toggled to single-coil by pressing down the volume and tone controls. (Volume for neck pickup, tone for bridge pickup.) The thrid control lets you infinitely vary the ratio of neck-to-bridge pickups. (Clockwise for more neck, counter-clockwise for more bridge.) It has a center detent so you know when both pickups are equally balanced. In conjunction with the coil-splitters, you can get an astonishing range of tones, from a deep rock growl to funktastic slap and all stops in between.
The
long-scale neck is beautifully proportioned and contoured for ease of playing
and features a full two-octave range (24 frets.) The Velve-Tune tuners turn
very smoothly, with comfortable buttons that are easy to grip. The original bridge was damaged when I got the bass. It has been replaced with a heavy duty Gotoh bridge.
The instrument
offered here is an outstanding example of this model. The deep candy red finish
retains its original luster with no apparent fading. This instrument was not a case queen. It has seen significant use. There is buckle rash on the back that I tried to capture. The original jet-wing Dead End
strap locks look good.
The original hard shell plastic case is included..
