Here's a great playing and nice sounding 60's era bakelite resonator banjo from Harmony. It's in solid condition but definitely shows its' age. The original brown paint finish on the neck shows some wear, checking, and chips, the 5th string tuning knob has been cracked but solidly repaired, and there are holes in the fingerboard beneath the 5th string where model RR spikes have been removed. The fret board itself is in decent condition as are the frets with only some wear showing on the first four. The tuners are original and work as they should. The bridge in not original but is of much better quality than the one it came with. The neck set is good with low action over the entire fret board and good intonation. The instrument tunes easily and stays in tune. It has what might be the original head. The back side of the head has some band diary entries that are all dated around 1965 and 1966. This is a real piece of Folk Boom history. The body and resonator are made from bakelite a type of vulcanized rubber that was also used for telephones and clarinets. It gives the banjo a rich woody sound that's great in an old time string band setting or for that Pete Seeger folk thing. It's also impervious to weather so if you're looking for a great "fishing banjo", this it definitely it. The instrument ships in a new padded gig bag. Thanks for looking...........
